The Las Vegas Strip's Aladdin hotel-casino, which won an injunction to stop an online casino from using its name on an Internet website, was awarded maximum statutory damages totalling $100,000 plus interest after a federal judge found the online casino violated the injunction "in a willful and contemptuous manner."
Bahamas-based Giordano Casinos and its owner Angelo Giordano, which were accused of linking the Aladdin name to "Worldbet.net," an online casino, were ordered in April 2000 to stop using the Aladdin name to advertise or promote gambling, casino or entertainment services.
Aladdin, which said the defendants "blatantly refused to cease and desist in the face of repeated demands and in violation of the court's injunctive orders," was also awarded $15,865 in attorneys' fees and costs.
