MLK Resource Center offers new workshops

The Martin Luther King Community Resource Center will host three new programs for young adults through the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. The programs are:

Getting a job and keeping it: A workshop that will assist in providing young adults ages 16-18 training to obtain and maintain employment. The workshop material covers on job career selection, resume preparation, job interview techniques and job success attitude.

Ready for the world life skills: A workshop designed to prepare young adults ages 12-17 with the necessary life and/or social skills to succeed. Topics will include self-esteem/self-awareness, decision-making, problem solving and conflict resolution.

Baby-sitting certification: A workshop offered to young adults ages 12-18 to provide the required skills to become a successful babysitter. Students will gain a complete understanding of the duties and responsibilities involved in baby-sitting and develop appropriate plans to respond to emergencies or crisis situations.

"The Writer, Human Rights and Tradition"

is the topic of the University Forum lecture at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in UNLV's Barrick Museum auditorium. Syl Cheney-Coker, a renowned poet and novelist, will speak about his personal experiences as well as his views of the world since Sept. 11. Admission is free. Call 895-3401.
