Rebel baseball swept by Fullerton

Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 | 9:17 a.m.

FULLERTON, Calif. -- UNLV baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle had a different view for the Rebels' third game against 16th-ranked Cal State Fullerton.

But the outcome remained the same.

Cal State Fullerton scored six runs on five hits and three walks in the fourth inning en route to a 13-1 victory at Goodwin Field Sunday afternoon to wrap up a sweep of a three-game series against the Rebels.

"It was as bad a weekend in baseball as I've ever been in involved with in my life," Schlossnagle said. "Not because we didn't try or play hard.

"The game of baseball got us in every way. We still have a good team, but obviously we've got to get a lot better."

UNLV dropped to 4-5 while Fullerton improved to 6-3.

Jason Reuss hit a solo home run with two outs in the sixth inning for UNLV's only run. Eric Nielsen had the only multiple-hit game for the Rebels, going 2-for-4.

Fullerton scored 12 or more runs in each game of the series and outhit UNLV 41-18 over the weekend.

In the previous two games, the Titans jumped all over both Rebel starting pitchers, amassing big leads by the second inning.

This time, Hall was one of the few bright spots for the Rebels, while the bullpen fell apart.

Hall, making his second appearance since having elbow surgery last season, was on a limited pitch count.

Although Hall suffered the loss, he was solid, allowing five hits, one earned run and striking out two in three innings.
