Letter: Superintendent doesn’t merit passing grade
Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 | 8:35 a.m.
Hate to rain on Carlos Garcia's parade, but before he rides off into new school district sunsets, would someone please remind the superintendent of schools:
A) He was Clark County's fifth or sixth choice to fill his position a few years back, and when chosen was from the "leftover pool"!
B) His racial "slur" made during the first six months on the job was close to a keg of dynamite igniting, and is still vivid in many of our minds.
C) His "privatization" of some seven local schools, and his choice of Edison to run them was very behind closed doors, and many local parents and taxpayers are still questioning this decision.
D) His most recent proposal to ban smoking in all schools for teachers is absurd. I mean, is it also their fault that they're already overworked in overcrowded classrooms, underpaid and understaffed? Mr. Garcia's marketing and public relations skills need a lot of work before he rides off into new school district sunsets.
At this point he won't get passing grades from this taxpayer nor a reference on his updated resume.
