Letter: Interstate trash welcomes visitor
Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 | 8:36 a.m.
On a recent trip to Nevada, I couldn't help notice the miles of garbage -- thousands of plastic bags, packing material and plastic shipping wrap -- strewn along Interstate 15 north of Las Vegas. What a mess and an ugly sight. I mentioned to my passenger that there has to be a dump nearby -- that could only explain the mass and concentration of debris blowing across the desert.
A week later, sure enough, the same sight awaited us as we traveled along the same path. This time, to our amusement, we noticed three men picking the same trash along the freeway. I congratulate them and wish them luck, since it will take those three men years to do the job.
Hold these companies responsible for their mess and get it cleaned up.
