14 attorneys apply for bench

Fourteen attorneys have applied to fill a District Court vacancy when Judge Stephen Huffaker retires on Feb. 22.
The applicants include Las Vegas Municipal Judges Michelle Leavitt, 36, and Jessie Walsh, 43, and Justice of the Peace Jennifer Togliatti, 34.
Also among the applicants are Deputy District Attorney Lawrence O'Neale, 55, and Las Vegas attorneys Nancy L. Allf, 45, Kenneth C. Cory, 58, Carolyn Ellsworth, 46, Steven B. Glade, 53, Mathew P. Harter, 35, Susan H. Johnson, 42, Aurora M. Maskall, 38, Michael C. Mills, 45, Troy E. Peyton, 41, and Sandra S. Smagac, 33.
Applications will be evaluated and candidates interviewed by the Commission on Judicial Selection, appointed by the governor, the State Bar and Chief Justice William Maupin.
The commission will submit three nominees to the governor, who will make the final choice.
The commission invites public comments on the applicants' qualifications in writing. Send comments by March 15 to the Commission Secretary, Ron Titus, Administrative Office of the Courts, Supreme Court Building, 201 S. Carson St., Suite 250, Carson City, NV 89701.
