Reputed mobster barred from New Jersey casinos

ATLANTIC CITY -- State regulators Thursday barred a reputed New York mobster from gambling at casinos in New Jersey.

The Casino Control Commission voted to put George V. Remini of Staten Island on its excluded list. Federal and state law enforcement officials said Remini is a capo in the Gambino crime family and has a criminal record that goes back more than 30 years.

State law allows regulators to place career criminals and others on the excluded list, which now names about 140 people.

Remini, a frequent visitor to Atlantic City since 1985, can appeal the commission's decision. However, it was not immediately known if he would challenge the ruling.

The commission was also scheduled to vote Thursday on a proposal to bar Frank Coppa Sr., a reputed member of the Bonanno crime family. However, it agreed to postpone that decision until March 27 at the request of Coppa's lawyer.
