CARSON CITY -- Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa has filed eight additional suits against political candidates, including five from Clark County, who failed to file their campaign expense and contribution reports or submitted them late.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Kateri Cavin said the civil suits were filed in district court in Carson City and seek from tardy candidates penalties up to $10,000.
Cavin also said that Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Wendell Williams, D-Las Vegas has paid $3,000 of his $6,800 fine. He has until March 22 to pay the rest. Williams signed an agreement to pay and does not face a civil suit.
Two weeks ago Cavin filed suit against 18 political candidates who either failed to file their campaign reports or submitted them late. Those suits sought payments of fines ranging from $25 to $15,000.
Candidates for the 2000 election were required to file three campaign reports, the last in January 2001.
Cavin said she filed suits Thursday against Clark County Senate candidate Richard Gardner for $5,000 and Assembly candidates Jonathan Hansen for $25; Mark Scarborough for $5,000 and Michael Wisner for $475.
A suit was also filed against Clark County Commission candidate Joshua Hansen for $10,000.
