Letter: Balance budget with a lottery
Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 | 8:47 a.m.
Every war produces profits. Huge profits for some producers. This bin Laden war is far from free. Weapons, clothing, fuel, food and many replacements are produced in this country. Making them in the U.S.A. would help many unemployed people get back on their feet.
How do we pay for these needs? A national lottery could be the solution. People like to gamble -- as we who live in Las Vegas know all too well. Big bucks can be generated on a national lottery. Lottery profit can be applied to balancing the budget.
An idea like this is easy to come up with. I'll leave the lottery operating details up to the bean counters in Washington. It shouldn't be much of a problem for them. What's say? Let's get with it.
