Las Vegas area fishing report: Anglers try to cope with cold water

With Lake Mead's water temperature now at 48 degrees the fishing has been very slow for largemouth and striped bass, according to the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

Despite the slow fishing, there has been no shortage of anglers during the past week, with many concentrating their efforts on nighttime fishing in the Boulder Basin. One angler reported to NDOW that he caught a six-pound striper late last week while fishing at Hemenway Harbor with a yellow Bomber Long A lure. However, that was the only strike that he received during several hours of fishing that evening.

There have been recent reports of stripers being taken from Stewart's Point to Overton Beach.

Rainbow trout fishing has been fair following NDOW's weekly plants. This week's plants will take place Friday at Horsepower Cove, Hemenway Harbor, South Saddle Cove and B-5 (Pumphouse) Cove.

Tilapia are still being caught in shallow coves in the Muddy and Virgin rivers areas of the Overton Arm. Most anglers are using green Powerbait to catch the fish.

The few anglers who have taken to the water at Cottonwood Cove during the past week have had disappointing results for striped bass.
