Canadian firm sued over canceled Vegas conference

Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 | 9:53 a.m.

MGM MIRAGE'S Bellagio resort on the Las Vegas Strip sued to recover unspecified damages from Canadian business travel company Reward Worldwide, doing business as Pantera Travel Inc., after it terminated an agreement to hold an Oct. 21-25, 2001, conference at the hotel-casino.

The suit, which alleged Ontario-based Reward agreed to be responsible for 50 percent of expected room, catering and beverage revenue if it canceled the conference between 238 and 328 days prior to Oct. 21, said Reward terminated the agreement on Jan. 10, 2001, 284 days before the conference was scheduled to begin.

Bellagio said it reserved 5,000 room nights for Reward and made arrangements for two dinners and one lunch for 3,000 participants.

The defendants could not be reached for comment.
