The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has extended the stadium lease for the city's minor league baseball team through the end of 2004.
The current contract for the Las Vegas 51s AAA baseball team was set to expire at the end of this year. The term of the contract was extended to coincide with the length of the 51s' player development agreement with its major league parent team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Under terms of the agreement, the 51s will pay $110,000 a year base rent, reimburse the LVCVA for sign and scoreboard maintenance, estimated at $20,000 a year, and split revenues on parking at Cashman Field. The 51s retain advertising revenues on signs and billboards at the stadium.
LVCVA board members were told the cost of utilities and stadium upkeep were about twice the amount of the lease agreement. Tom Smith, vice president of facilities for the LVCVA, said the agency's subsidy is considered part of the LVCVA's community support.
