Letter: Little achieved for homeless
Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 | 9 a.m.
Was the regional planning homeless task force set up to help increase or make more efficient services to the homeless? If so, why after more than six months has the only accomplishment been that the tent shelter opened one month early?
Where are the appeals for volunteers and donations of food, merchandise and money by regional politicians? Where are the increases in mental health outreach teams? Where are the promised state mental health system increases?
Since HUD paid for the homeless study, does the inaction have anything to do with tax credits for affordable housing construction?
When is Clark County going to act on a drop-in center, instead of a new "campus"? If not, why not?
