Lawyer hired in Frohlich dispute

UNLV has enlisted the services of noted Kansas City attorney Michael Glazier, considered an expert in dealing with NCAA eligibility issues, to help oversee the school's case involving the recent suspension of star forward Linda Frohlich.
Glazier, a former NCAA field representative who specializes in helping schools respond to NCAA inquiries, also worked with the Rebels during the NCAA's last investigation into the men's basketball program that culminated in the firing of coach Bill Bayno last year. The school managed to dodge severe sanctions in that case.
"He's going to help us," said Jerry Koloskie, UNLV's senior associate athletic director who is spearheading the school's response to the NCAA that Frohlich may have violated NCAA amatuerism guidelines while playing for club and national teams in her native Germany. "I will be in contact with him. (UNLV president Dr. Carol Harter) has a lot of confidence in him. And she wanted to have him consult with us on this case."
Frohlich and sophomore center Petra Glaser were suspended by UNLV on Friday afternoon after the NCAA contacted the school a day earlier to point out possible infractions. The school determined that Glaser had competed on a team in Germany prior to enrolling at UNLV in 2000 that had professional players on it, a violation of NCAA rules. Glaser must sit out eight games but will be eligible to resume her college career after that.
Koloskie said late Monday night that UNLV was still in the process of gathering information for its NCAA response concerning Frohlich. He declined to get into the specifics of the case involving the All-America candidate.
"At this point we're still collecting, reviewing and trying to corroborate our information," Koloskie said. "We're trying to get together some kind of response. We'd like to get it done in the next 24 or 48 hours so that we can possibly get a resolution to it before Thursday night's game (against Colorado State)."
