Letter: Bush doesn’t care about all Americans
Monday, Feb. 11, 2002 | 8:36 a.m.
President George W. Bush is proposing to rebuild a nation trapped in the mentality of the middle ages and controlled by warlords, while stiffing the American people. His budget to Congress continues to ignore the needs of the masses that are not Wall Street smart (a financial system that favors the rich and dishonest, e.g., Enron).
While all this is going on, Bush's budget has not addressed the medical needs of millions of Americans, both young and old. Raided the Social Security Trust Fund and left many worthy programs unfunded. He traipsed around the country trying to convince all Americans that he cares about them, but that is a laugh. The strength of a nation is dependent upon the totality of the government's commitment to the people and the people's commitment to the government.
One only has the look at how much of the rest of the world views America. If the world did not look at us through jaundiced eyes, there would be no place for people like Osama bin Laden, who was able to recruit thousands of followers, all devoted to hatred of America, willing to give up their lives to reach their goal of wreaking havoc on America.
