PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Narragansett Indian Tribe and Boyd Gaming Corp. of Las Vegas like the odds this time around.
Twenty months after their last bid to build a casino in a West Warwick industrial park died in the Legislature, the tribe and Boyd said they will try again to put their proposal on a statewide ballot.
The $650 million casino would include 3,500 slot machines, 120 gaming tables, a performing arts theater and eventually a 1,200-room hotel.
Gambling revenue is seen as a way for Rhode Island to deal with a $70 million budget deficit this year, and the possibility of an even bigger shortfall in 2003.
