Letter: Investments hurt by Bush

Friday, Feb. 8, 2002 | 4:26 a.m.

In 1995, when I retired, I rolled over my 401(k) into an IRA, which doubled from that date to Jan. 19, 2001, under Bill Clinton's economy. Since Jan. 20, 2001, under Bush my IRA has declined by 13 percent -- and that occurred before Sept. 11.

Reagan's famous question -- "Are you better off now than you were four years ago?" -- will be the question we should ask in November 2002 and 2004. The honest answer should be a resounding "no."

I truly hope that my fellow seniors are aware that George W. Bush is already raiding Clinton's Social Security surplus.
