Las Vegan Tami Shibata shot a first-round 69 at the Cypress Golf Classic hosted by the U.S. Challenge Golf Tour Tuesday to lead the field of 35.
The U.S. Challenge Golf Tour, formerly the Ladies' Challenge Golf Tour, is in its third year of operation.
The Cypress Golf Classic, being held at the Cypress Golf Club in Los Alamitos, Calif., is the first event of the year for the co-ed developmental golf tour.
Las Vegan Jeanine Fiorito struggled in the first round, carding a 91.
The field also features at least 15 top Asian Professional Ladies from Japan and Korea.
Previously, the Ladies' Challenge Golf Tour held tournaments at the Badlands Golf Club.
This year, the tour's stop will be held at Sunrise Vista Golf Course and feature men and women.
Former UNLV All-Americans and local residents Chris Riley and Ed Fryatt each missed the cut -- Riley by two strokes and Fryatt by five.
Former UNLV golfer Chad Campbell fared even worse, missing the cut by 10 strokes.
