Carrier plans LV routes

Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 | 9:46 a.m.

A Kentucky-based airline that has specialized in charter flights between the Midwest and the Caribbean since 1996 is expanding into scheduled service and plans to put Las Vegas on its route map.

Sunworld International Airlines, Fort Mitchell, plans initially to serve Indianapolis; Philadelphia; and Hartford, Conn. beginning Feb. 18 and will add Kansas City, Mo.; Wichita, Kan.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Las Vegas in the months ahead, said Alex Lukondi, marketing director for the airline.

Lukondi said a start-up date for Las Vegas has not been determined, pending government approvals. The airline flies 150-seat three-engine Boeing 727 jets.

Lukondi said the low-fare carrier would offer first-class upgrades for $30 and will target business as well as leisure travelers.
