Apex water receives approval

The Las Vegas Valley Water District board agreed Tuesday to provide water to the Apex Industrial Park, removing a roadblock to development of the 10,000-acre project 15 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
The district agreed to provide 2,000 acre-feet of water per year to the park, enough water for about the same number of homes.
The agreement will help settle litigation that the park's developers filed against the Water District and Clark County Commission, which serves as the Water District board, said Rick Holmes, assistant county manager.
Under the agreement, the park will pay for the water and the systems to pump and deliver it.
The county bought the land for the park from the federal government, then immediately sold the property to developers in 1999.
The park was originally designed to be the home for industrial purposes, but the proposal has since grown to include concepts for commercial and residential uses.
Deed restrictions now in place would limit development to industrial uses. Holmes, however, said the county has the ability to modify the deed restrictions on a case-by-case basis.
