Letter: Put casinos to property-tax test

Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002 | 8:44 a.m.

This past year my property taxes have increased by 11 percent. If the value of my property has increased, why do the 33 Clark County casinos, which are seeking a $2.3 billion reduction, feel that theirs has decreased to this point?

If they really feel that the value of their properties has declined, then let them put their money where their mouth is. Put the property up for sale at the county's appraised value. If it sells, look at all the extra profit they will make.

If it doesn't sell within 120 days, then have the Clark County Board of Equalization look at its $2.3 billion tax reduction rates.
