UNLV defeats Cal for second win of season

UNLV's baseball team picked up a 10-5 win over Cal-Berkeley on Sunday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The win improves UNLV to 2-1 on the season, while Cal falls to 1-2.
Donnie Watts (1-0) earned the win for the Rebels in relief. He pitched 1 2/3 innings and gave up only one run. Starter David Seccombe pitched 4 2/3 innings, but needed one more out to qualify for the win. He gave up four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Garett Shitanishi finished the game 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. He hit the first home run of his career in the sixth inning, driving three runs.
Tony Schuler also managed a pair of hits with two RBIs. David Trujillo, Jason Reuss and Brent Johnson added a single hit each. Reuss' hit was a triple that scored Trujillo in the sixth inning.
James Nepa scored twice and drove in a run despite not being credited with a hit.
UNLV returns to the diamond Friday at 6:30 p.m. for a three-game series with in-state rival Nevada-Reno.
