The UNLV women's tennis team posted its second shutout in three days as it completed a perfect weekend, this time 7-0 over Weber State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Lady Rebels (3-0) opened the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. Paulina Janus and Aga Abram won at the top spot, Marianne Bakken and Gyorgyi Zsiros teamed up for a victory at No. 2 and Tracie Chong and Leentjie Oosthuizen posted an 8-1 win on Court Three.
In singles play, the Wildcats (0-6) won only one set and lost that match in a tiebreaker. At the top spot, 59th-ranked Janus breezed past Therina Steenkamp 6-1, 6-0. Also winning in straight sets for UNLV were Aga Abram at No. 2, Zsiros at No. 3, Chong at No. 4, Bakken at No. 5 and Amy Hadziosmanovic at the sixth position.
"I feel that we came out and played up to our potential this weekend," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "These matches were a good test to start the season and it means a lot to start out with some momentum."
In contrast, UNLV began last season 0-2 after its opening weekend of matches and finished 11-12.
