Letter: Schools expose own students to vulturous firms

Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 | 8:31 a.m.

It really upsets me that universities are selling their students' names to banks. It is allowing the credit card companies to target these young students who are already struggling without the help of a high-rated interest credit card.

These students are ignorant to the fact of the difficulty to pay back credit cards with such a high rate. Especially due to the fact that most students do not have a job, and will be in debt before they start working.

The credit card companies are certainly leading these students to a temptation that is hard to resist. Good credit is very crucial in the world today if you want to get anywhere in life.

I believe that the school is to benefit its students, not expose them to the vulture-type credit card companies that prey on struggling students. No wonder so many young people are in bankruptcy and have high credit card debt.

I was not aware of this situation before. It makes me very wary of who you can trust with your name.
