Pennies for Patients program seeks schools
The Las Vegas Branch of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients project continues to seek interested schools to participate in its nationwide program to raise funds to be used for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma research, and for patient services.
Pennies for Patients is one of the society's national school and youth programs. For more information, call 436-4220.
Green Valley group to hold meeting
The Green Valley Federated Women's Club will hold a mix and meet 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Henderson Police Substation, 300 Green Valley Parkway, to introduce the Green Valley club to the Henderson community and to invite women to learn more about the club.
The international organization has been instrumental in the establishment of libraries, parks and recreation areas, and myriad health, safety and education programs at the local, state, national and international levels.

Hikes offer close look at area
Guided hikes and informative talks are offered by the Lake Mead National Recreation Area free at the park's Alan Bible Visitor Center northeast of Boulder City.
Reservations are required for the guided hikes. Call 293-8990. Upcoming programs:
Black Canyon Hike: A five- to six-mile moderate hike Saturday, to view Black Canyon as well as the Colorado River.
Redstone Discovery Hike: Meet at mile marker 25.5 on the North Shore Road for this five-mile moderate hike Sunday.
"Heart Disease:
Risk Factors and Warning Signs," an education program, will be offered at MountainView Hospital, 3100 N. Tenaya Way, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Call 255-5056.
A seminar on hypertension
will be offered 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Lake Mead Hospital Medical Center's James Seastrand Memorial Conference Room, 1409 E. Lake Mead Blvd. Call 657-5647.
Metro Police will hold an open house
to discuss employment opportunities within the department at 7 p.m. Tuesday at all LVMPD substations -- Downtown, 401 S. Fourth St.; Northeast, 831, N. Mojave Road; Southeast, 2300 E. St. Louis Ave.; Northwest, 9850 W. Cheyenne Ave.; Southwest, 5925 Spring Mountain Road. Call 229-3394.
