Gambler arrested after infant found alone in room

BATON ROUGE, La. -- A woman accused of leaving her 11-week-old baby in a Baton Rouge hotel room while she gambled has been arrested.

Tandrin Grayer, 30, of Baton Rouge, was booked into Parish Prison on a charge of child desertion Saturday after she returned to her room at the Sheraton Hotel, said Cpl. Don Kelly, a spokesman for Baton Rouge police.

A housekeeper went to clean the room about 9 a.m. Saturday and saw the baby lying on a bed. Kelly said the housekeeper assumed an adult was in the room and left, planning to clean the room later.

When the housekeeper returned about 11:30 a.m., the baby was still on the bed. The woman checked the room and found that the baby was alone, Kelly said.

Police were able to identify Grayer through paperwork in the room, which was registered in another name. Records from the Argosy Casino show that Grayer's casino card had been used at the casino that morning.
