Fund-raiser planned for Flutterby the clown

A fund-raiser and silent auction to help with medical care costs for Pamela Whitner -- known as Flutterby the clown for the past 25 years -- will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Velvet Lounge, inside the WB Stage 16 restaurant at The Venetian.

Whitner, 43, has been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. She has chosen to seek alternatives to traditional medical care at the Santa Monica Hospital of Rosita Beach, Mexico.

The auction, which will include statues, jewelry and show tickets, is to help pay for Whitner's care. Entertainment will include local performers Rick Michaels, Robby Le Blanc, Carol and Carl, Lawrence T. and others.

Dogs in training for flyball tournament

The Las Vegas Touch N Go flyball team will host a tournament Saturday and Sunday at Catherine's Celebrity Ranch.

The Touch N Go flyball team ranks in the top 10 worldwide in the sport that pits dogs racing over hurdles to retrieve tennis balls. About a third of the dogs have been rescued from local shelters.

The tournament will begin at 7:30 a.m. both days and continue until dusk. Admission is free and open to the public. In addition to the competition, dogs from area shelters will be available for adoption.

Catherine's Celebrity Ranch is located at 750 W. Neal Ave., off St. Rose Parkway (State Route 146) and Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Need a ride after a New Year's Eve party?

The Crockett & Myers law firm has established the Home for the Holidays campaign, which offers those who have been drinking a free ride home.

Party-goers may call for a free ride home now through Wednesday.

Those who need a lift home from a bar, restaurant or private party can call 382-HOME (4663). Within roughly 30 minutes, two trained drivers will arrive. One will use the party-goer's own car to drive the person home. The other driver will follow behind and provide a ride for the first driver after the party-goer arrives home safely.
