Firefighters to sign benefit calendar

Project Sunshine of Nevada will hold a signing of the second annual Las Vegas Firefighter Calendar for 2003-2004 noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Virgin Megastore at the Forum Shops at Caesars.

The calendar features a variety of local firefighters who donated time to pose and who will will be providing autographs Sunday.

Project Sunshine is a nonprofit dedicated to providing financial, material and volunteer support for camp programs for Nevada children with critical or life-altering illnesses or situations. The camps include Camp Cartwheel for abandoned or abused children and Camp Mariposa for children who have lost a loved one.

Red Cross blanket drive to continue

The American Red Cross is continuing a blanket drive through Tuesday. The drive recently was bolstered by the donation of 30 blankets by seven valley children who gave up their Christmas gifts to donate blankets.

The blankets are used by the nonprofit organization to hand out to individuals and families affected by disaster.

Catch a movie at Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes, walks and programs free of charge. To make required reservations or for more information on the following or upcoming programs, call 363-1922:

Winter Flicks at the Rock: Program features the movie "Snowball Express" Saturday on a big screen at the Red Rock Visitor Center. Cider, cocoa, and cookies will be provided, plus a craft after the movie.

Mystery March: A five-mile strenuous hike Saturday.

Feeling Loopy V: The final challenge 11-mile strenuous hike on Sunday.

County's planning newsletter goes online

The Clark County Department of Comprehensive Planning now has available to the public an electronic newsletter that updates the activities of the department in detail.

The newsletter, (clarkcounty.com/comprehensive-planning/ pdf/newsletter.pdf) which will be updated quarterly, will cover awards, projects, environmental planning, demographics, trails development, regional planning, comprehensive plan, transportation and nuclear waste.

Sanitation District to change its name

The Clark County Sanitation District will change its name to the Clark County Water Reclamation District effective Jan. 6.

The district provides for the collection and treatment of wastewater in the unincorporated portions of Clark County. More information on the district can be found online (cleanwaterteam.com) or by calling 434-6600.
