CARSON CITY -- Amy Wright, who worked her way up the ladder in the state Parole and Probation Division, has been named chief of the agency that supervises 16,000 offenders.
Wright, 53, of Las Vegas succeeds Warren Lutzow, who retires Jan. 3 from the $89,257-a-year job. Richard Kirkland, director of the state Department of Public Safety, announced her appointment Monday.
Kirkland also named Philip Brown, who has been in law enforcement since 1975, as chief of the Division of Investigation. Brown, 50, of Reno, succeeds David Hosmer, who became chief of the Nevada Highway Patrol. Brown will earn $77,569.
Wright had been deputy chief of the Parole and Probation office in Las Vegas and in her new position she will run the agency out of Southern Nevada.
The department has 15 statewide offices and 479 employees, runs the victim restitution program and provides District Court with pre-sentencing recommendations of those convicted of felonies or gross misdemeanors.
Wright started her career with the division in 1985, first working as a Parole and Probation officer. She advanced to field supervisor, court services officer, field training officer, operations supervisor, unit manager and district administrator before becoming deputy chief.
She earned her bachelor's degree in social psychology, social services and corrections from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Brown has been with the investigation division since 1996 and has been deputy chief since April 2002. He has been a major crimes investigator, narcotics enforcement supervisor and an investigator in the office of professional responsibility.
He will supervise six statewide narcotics task forces, the major crimes unit and the unit that provides investigative services to local governments.
He previously worked for Fallon and Reno Police, the coroner's office in Fairfield, Calif., Parole and Probation in Reno and the Bureau of Environment in Reno.
He graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a degree in biological sciences.
