Henderson cited for water achievement
Henderson has received the Gold Award for Competitiveness Achievement from the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies.
The award recognizes premier water quality services by the Henderson Utility Services Department.
The Gold Award recognizes water agencies where management practices meet expanding demands of consumer and market forces. The city of Henderson is one of 16 agencies to receive a Gold Award.
Henderson was honored for, among other things, implementation of a state-of-the-art ultraviolet disinfection system in the water treatment facility and installation of touch-to-read automated technology on the city's water meters.
St. Rose honored for community support
St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson received the Pioneer Award from the Governor's Awards for Performance Excellence.
St. Rose also received an award for community support for demonstrating high levels of public responsibility.
The Pioneer Award recognizes the hospital's coordination of numerous patient-focused programs and employment of a guest relations representative to improve community relations.
Lewis Avenue project receives recognition
Las Vegas received the Tourism and Development Award for the Lewis Avenue Corridor from the Governor's Conference on Tourism.
The award is given to Nevada businesses and municipalities that create new or expanded facilities that attract visitors and provide jobs.
The Lewis Avenue Corridor pedestrian project has a a flowing water feature and lush landscaping to attract tourists to the downtown area, the city said.
The city's Planning and Development Department submitted the Lewis Avenue Corridor for award consideration because it helps fulfill the city's goals of redevelopment in the urban core, creation of a pedestrian-friendly downtown and increased cultural venues, city officials said.
