Scholarship created to honor former coach
Monday, Dec. 23, 2002 | 10:10 a.m.
Former Southern Nevada high school students who played on sports teams coached by Emilio Camillone have established a scholarship in his memory.
Camillone, who died Sept. 10 in the Philippines at age 62, coached football and soccer and was a driver's education teacher with the Clark County School District for 32 years. He retired in 1996.
The Coach Cam Scholarship Fund recently was established at Business Bank of Nevada. Donations can be made to account No. 0002207974 for the scholarship that is designed to fund at least one high school soccer player to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for one year.
Gary Sepede, a principal with LPL Financial Services and a former soccer player who was coached by Camillone at Chaparral, opened the account. He said depending on how much money is collected, the scholarship could be expanded to pay for more years of college or could assist additional students.
Camillone also coached at Indian Springs, Rancho, Basic and Las Vegas high schools.
