Pedestrian hit by van after stepping off Sahara median

Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 | 10:58 a.m.

Emerito Cardosa, 61, of Las Vegas suffered life-threatening injuries about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by a van as he tried to walk across Sahara Avenue near Lynwood Street.

Witnesses told Metro Police it appeared Cardosa wasn't watching oncoming traffic when he stepped from the median and into into the path of a 1990 Dodge van driven by Robert Blue, 46, of Pahrump.

Blue hit his brakes and Cardosa attempted to turn around and run back to the median, police said, but the van hit him.

Police said Cardosa sustained serious injuries. He was taken to University Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition this morning, a hospital spokesman said.

The cause of the collision appears to be pedestrian error, police said.
