Letter: Don’t overreact to racial issues
Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 | 8:54 a.m.
Will some human beings ever start acting like intelligent, grown people? As years go by, all war enemies are forgotten. Will our racial issues never be finished? Now apologies don't seem to change the situation at hand for Sen. Trent Lott. We must watch our P's and Q's as there are those who will twist around what's said to mean other than what was meant.
No one can bring up past issues in the political sector of how they voted 40 years ago. That was a different era. Politicians vote in the direction of what's good for the majority of the people, at that time. If not, you can kiss goodbye being re-elected. You cannot please everyone in what you do.
I believe this sensitivity thing is way out of hand and people are afraid to get involved to help straighten it out. There are a few always looking for the smallest things so to entice others into mob rule. We don't need vendettas against anyone.
No matter what your race, many of us say things in the spur of the moment without thinking. Racial issues today are now twice as sensitive. Growing up in Philadelphia with beaucoup races, we were all taught to take racial slurs in stride and ignore it. We had less problems then. Many newspapers today don't like to get involved and print letters involving racial issues.
Having the right to speak my thoughts and not point fingers, I believe people should think first before carrying issues so far as to demand blood by ruining a person's lifetime career. We have too many other problems in our world today. Two wrongs don't make a right. You may be in that same position someday.
