Henderson hires new redevelopment director

Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002 | 9:05 a.m.

After a three-month national search, Henderson has hired Reno's redevelopment director to run its own redevelopment agency.

Robert Ryan, 50, will be paid $102,304 annually. He will oversee an annual operating budget of $3 million, a half-dozen staff members and three redevelopment areas totaling 2,450 acres.

A three-member panel led by City Manager Phil Speight chose Ryan from more than 100 candidates to replace Bob Wilson, who now works in the city's property management department.

Community development director Mary Kay Peck and Assistant City Manager Bonnie Rinaldi also were panelists.

Ryan served as Reno's redevelopment director for two years, leading the planning of a five-story building overlooking the Truckee River. It will house four local restaurants and 14 high-end, market-rate loft apartments.

Peck cited that success in Reno as one reason for his hire. His experience in redevelopment was another.

Before Reno, Ryan worked as San Jose, Calif., redevelopment project manager for eight years, directing development of the $200 million San Jose Arena. He also worked three years as redevelopment project manager in Phoenix.
