Goodwill to move headquarters

Goodwill Industries of Southern Nevada could be moving its state corporate headquarters to North Las Vegas.
The City Council on Wednesday voted 3-2 to approve plans for a shopping center and Goodwill building on about 13.9 acres on the northeast corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue.
Steve Chartrand, president of the local Goodwill operation, said the new building would be the corporate headquarters for the local organization. The facility would also house a computer training operation, processing center for donated goods and retail store, he said.
Goodwill's local headquarters is now on Patrick Lane outside Henderson.
Councilmembers Robert Eliason and Stephanie Smith voted against the proposal.
"I want Goodwill in North Las Vegas ... but this is a zoning issue," Smith said.
Smith said she was worried allowing Goodwill to operate a warehouse in a commercially zoned area could set a dangerous precedent.
