CARSON CITY -- Current high school students may be able to rest easy about having to pass a proficiency test in science before they can graduate.
The special session of the Legislature last year delayed the required science test until 2003-04 for the first graduating class.
Now the Legislative Committee on Education is recommending another delay.
A spokeswoman for the committee said today its recommendation is that the state go along with the federal No Child Left Behind law, which doesn't require the passage of the test until the 2007-08 graduating class.
If the recommendation is adopted by the 2003 Legislature, it means that 11th graders would start taking the examination in 2006-07 in order to graduate the next year.
