Nevadans to share in predatory lending settlement

Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002 | 11:15 a.m.

Hundreds of Nevadans who were victims of deceptive real estate loan practices by mortgage lender Household International will share in a $4.5 million refund sometime next year.

District Judge Gene Porter signed a consent judgment this week that resolves allegations of unfair lending practices by Household and its subsidiaries, Household Finance Corp. and Beneficial Corp., between January 1999 and September 2002.

Deputy Attorney General Kathleen Delaney said Tuesday the state must now seek additional information from Household International to determine who in Nevada is entitled to a part of the rebate.

Consumers who want to file complaints can send them to the Financial Institutions Division, 2501 E. Sahara Ave., Suite, 300, Las Vegas 89104.

Delaney said as many as 2,500 Nevadans got loans through the company, but not all of them were victims of unfair lending.
