Letter: Bush is scaring the whole nation
Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 | 8:49 a.m.
Is it just me or is President Bush scaring the hell out of the population. Almost every time he opens his mouth, the words "War! War!" come out. He has a plan for a lifetime war, or at least for his term in office. Now he's got everyone begging for a smallpox vaccine.
I wonder what the next topic of panic will be? Maybe digging foxholes in our back yards! A war on a country just in case they might be developing something. What about our young men and women in the military who will be putting their lives on the line for Mr. Bush, not the safety of our nation?
Shouldn't a president's job be to calm the people. Shouldn't he at least talk of a possible peace. I'm afraid his decision to constantly beat the war drum has taken its effect on the people. The public is now starting to panic, which in time can only escalate. Personally I think there must be a better role for our president to portray.
Hopefully by '04, if we are tired of being in a panic, the economy is even worse than it is now, and we are hated by most other world leaders, we'll vote the axis of evil out.
