Station buys land near Indian casino
Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 | 11:13 a.m.
Neighborhood casino operator Station Casinos Inc. has purchased 98 acres of land across the street from its planned Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento.
The vacant parcel, located in an industrial area, was privately owned and wasn't controlled by the United Auburn Indian Community.
The sale price wasn't disclosed.
Station Casinos expects to manage the casino for the tribe.
The company hasn't disclosed what it intends to do with the property or whether it would develop a hotel or other resort amenities not yet part of the Thunder Valley property.
The $215 million casino, located on 49 acres about seven miles north of Interstate 80 that links San Francisco with Reno, broke ground in late October after overcoming a legal challenge by surrounding communities and is expected to be open by summer 2003. It would feature up to 1,900 slot machines and about 100 table games, including a private gambling area.
