Wyoming hires Glenn as new football coach

Joe Glenn was hired as Wyoming's football coach Thursday after leading successful Division I-AA and Division II programs in Montana and Colorado.

"I couldn't be happier, or more proud to be the next head coach at Wyoming," Glenn said in a statement. "I can't wait to kick things into gear."

Glenn replaces Vic Koenning, who was fired after three losing seasons. The Cowboys went 5-28 under Koenning.

Glenn has been successful at both I-AA Montana, where he has coached the last three seasons, and at his previous head-coaching job at Division II Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.

Mexico National team invites Rebel to tryout

UNLV women's soccer player Jenny Ruiz has been invited to try out for a spot on the 2003 Mexican National Team.

Ruiz, a sophomore defender for the Rebels, will travel next week for the national team's training camp on Dec. 17-22 in Mexico City. Current WUSA players and former collegiate stars Monica Gerardo (Washington Freedom) and Monica Gonzalez (Boston Breakers) head up the current Mexican National Team roster.

Todd Walker traded from Reds to Bosox

Todd Walker became Boston's regular second baseman when he was obtained from the Cincinnati Reds for two minor leaguers who will be identified within six months.

Bettor pleads guilty in Pick-6 scheme

The man who nearly collected $3 million on a Pix Six bet from the Breeders' Cup admitted in a White Plains, N.Y., federal courtroom that the wager was rigged.

Derrick Davis, 29, of Baltimore, pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy. He renounced any claim to the money. Sentencing was set for March 11.
