Nevada Fishing Report

Friday, Dec. 13, 2002 | 10:14 a.m.

Fishing for largemouth and striped bass continues to decline as the water temperature drops at Lake Mead. Rainbow trout are being caught in the Boulder Basin following the Nevada Division of Wildlife's weekly plants.

Anglers who were on hand for last week's trout plants had very good success for trout at all of the stocking locations by fishing with Super Duper lures and PowerBait. This week's plants will take place today at Horsepower Cove, Hemenway Harbor, B-3 Cove and B-5 Cove.

Anglers who were fishing at Horsepower Cove following last week's trout plant managed to hook a few striped bass. Small numbers of stripers have also been caught recently at Las Vegas Bay, Black Island, Saddle Cove and in the Muddy River area.

Several stripers weighing more than 10 pounds have been caught at Willow Beach during the past week, including a 17-pound fish that was taken Dec. 5.

Small stripers are still being caught in the narrows above Cottonwood Cove by boaters. Drifting and trolling with anchovies and squid is the best method for catching the fish.
