Letter: Take care of personal waste

I have a suggestion for those people wanting to show their patriotism. It's not as showy as waving the flag, but it's just as easy.
During this season of mass consumerism, as we busy ourselves with consuming everything and anything in sight, we might want to reduce the amount of material headed to the landfill by putting out those red, white, and blue containers that Silver State so readily provides homeowners.
I recently moved into a new house and immediately inquired about recycling possibilities. Silver State quickly obliged. They're amazing. They will deliver, tell you what days to put out your recyclables, and encourage you to call them first thing in the morning if you have any problems. And it's all free.
Most states charge a recycling fee, but Silver State provides this service for anyone willing to put their containers into bins and make that walk out to the sidewalk.
As a reminder, local science teachers estimate that most of these containers will not decompose in our lifetime. Perhaps we don't have much say over our country's nuclear waste problem, but we can take care of our own waste.
