Ava Elizabeth Back, 77, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. She was born July 31, 1925, in Fort Worth, Texas. A resident for 15 years, she worked in marketing at Mandalay Bay.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandrea Inglis.

She is survived by her husband, J.C.; two daughters, Shirley McNeece of Henderson and Sparkie Lee of California; one brother, Bobby Mitchell; and two grandchildren.

Paul A. Barnes

Paul A. Barnes, 89, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 19, 1913, in Middletown, Ohio. A resident for three years, he was an Air Force chief warrant officer 4, a World War II Korean War and Vietnam War veteran, a lifetime member of the Retired Officers Association and the American Legion and was a 32nd degree Mason.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy; and one son, Jeffrey M. Barnes of Phoenix.

Kenneth John Buchan

Kenneth John Buchan, 63, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born April 14, 1939, in New York. A resident for 53 years, he was a consulting engineer, a Navy veteran and a member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; three sons, Ken Jr., Patrick and Timothy; two daughters, Angela and Michele; two brothers, Robert and Thomas; two sisters, Patrice and Denise; and seven grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be 11:20 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Ronald Vincent Castellano, 70, of Las Vegas died Nov. 22 in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Chicago. A resident for 16 years, he was a security officer and a Korean War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jo; one daughter, Theresa Fullerton of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

C. Dwight Chambers, 71, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born July 15, 1931, in Turkey, Texas. A resident for 37 years, he retired as an owner-operator of a wholesale business, was an Air Force veteran, a member of the West Charleston Lions Club and the Masons.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; two sons, Paul of Las Vegas and Darrel of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; one daughter, Joanne Sammeli of Prescott Valley; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ronald Robert Clark, 69, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born June 19, 1933, in New York City. A resident for three years, he was a retired general contractor and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Nan Cruz; one son, Steve R. Clark of Santa Cruz, Calif.; two daughters, Karen Ann Clark of Belle Meade, N.J., and Diane Bermingham of Aptos, Calif.; one sister, Doris Shaffer of Smithville, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

Gladys Effie McGlothlin Cole

Gladys Effie McGlothlin Cole, 93, of Newport Beach, Calif., died Dec. 2 in California. She was born May 2, 1909, in Shady Grove, Texas. A former Las Vegas resident she served as a volunteer forest ranger at Mount Charleston and was a fund-raiser who provided guide dogs for the blind.

She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Daniels of Las Vegas; one sister, Mildred Holveck of Grand Prairie, Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Pacific View Mortuary Chapel, Corona Del Mar, Calif., is handling arrangements.

Norman R. Coleman, 80, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born May 22, 1922, in Wisconsin. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired hotel carpenter, a World War II Navy veteran, a member of the Masons and Carpenters Local 1780.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; and one sister.

Martinella F. Curtis, 71, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born March 8, 1931, in Wisconsin. A resident for 26 years, she was a retired head cook.

She is survived by her husband, John Sr.; three sons, John W. Curtis Jr. of Las Vegas, James J. Curtis of Stoughton, Wis., and Jerry L. Curtis of Glen Cove, N.Y.; one daughter, Judy Ann Freberg of Las Vegas; two sisters, Rita Bork of Cottage Grove, Wis., and Joanne Squire of Westfield, Wis.; and eight grandchildren.

Julian C. Demato, 76, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local convalescent hospital. He was born March 10, 1926, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired milkman and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Stella; four sons, Michael Demato, John Demato and Peter Demato, all of New York, Thomas Demato of Las Vegas; two daughters, Lucille Grilli of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Teresa Margo of New York; and six grandchildren.

Mavis L. Gee, 79, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local health care center. She was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Los Angeles. A resident for eight years, she was a homemaker.

Seymour Charles Greenwald, 83, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. He was born Oct. 22, 1919, in New York City. A resident for 13 years, he was a retired executive at a manufacturing company and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Laura J.; one son, Andrew J. Greenwald of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Miriam P. Hall of Albuquerque; one stepdaughter, Francene J. Hanson of Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Raul; two sons, Dario Guastavino of Las Vegas and Adrian Guastavino of Panorama City, Calif.; one daughter, Daniela Foreman of Las Vegas; one brother, Julio Belmonte of Argentina; and seven grandchildren.

Joseph Helfand, 69, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born March 29, 1933, in Toronto. A resident for nine years, he was a retired aircraft parts salesman.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; two sons, Stan Helfand of Agoura Hills, Calif., and Michael Helfand of Simi Valley, Calif.; one brother, Harry Helfand of Toronto; and four grandchildren.

Dona Faye Lickliter, 74, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Nebraska. A resident for 41 years, she was a doll maker.

She is survived by two sons, James Stephen Lickliter and Mark Douglas; two daughters, Joanne Scott and Marcia Nissen; two brothers, Monte Hoffman and Bill Hoffman; two sisters, Zoe Faber, Jerri Nyffler and Susan Hansen; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mary R. McDorman

Mary R. McDorman, 100, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 28, 1902, in Belton, Texas. A resident for 61 years, she was a homemaker, worked on the Election Board for many years, moved to Boulder City during the construction of Hoover Dam, relocated to Las Vegas before World War II, was in the first graduation class of UNLV and then earned a master's degree.

She is survived by one daughter, LaJuan Mills, and one son, William Langholz, both of Alaska; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

James Lee West, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Michigan. A resident for 51 years, he was a retired dealer, a World War II Navy veteran, a leader, advisor and counselor for the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita R.; three sons, James L. Wiest II of Olympia, Wash., Dale R. Wiest of Springfield, Mo., and Robert E. Wiest of Las Vegas; one brother, Robert Wiest of California; and six grandchildren.
