Letter: U.S. approach is unproductive
Monday, Dec. 9, 2002 | 9:08 a.m.
North Korea will not allow foreign inspectors into their country who come from the United Nations. The country refuses to get rid of the nuclear weapons.
Therefore, it is necessary to provide good and effective diplomacy with this huge, well-populated and powerful country. So far, our public relations with North Korea have been very strained, and unsatisfactory.
President George Bush has been expounding angrily and lashing out at the North Koreans. This is not wise, considering the fact that they have obtained the nuclear bomb. The North Korean government has retaliated with statements that they do not appreciate this criticism.
The right interaction and proper dialogue, at this particular time, is crucial between the United States and North Korea if we are to strive toward peace.
