Letter: Elected officials make veterans feel less patriotic
Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 | 4:05 a.m.
I am not a Democrat nor a Republican. I am an Independent, but I write as a concerned American. Fellow veterans tell me that they no longer feel patriotic due to the hypocrisy of our elected officials and that our country is no longer the same.
I still remain patriotic, but I question the real motives of warlord Kublai W. Bush, who is hot to trot for war no matter what U.N. inspectors find in Iraq! Why? Well, for starters, war makes many jobs, it takes minds off of the economy, and the rich get richer.
When the men and women of our military are in harm's way, that does not affect Washington. When it's cold, they are warm. When it's hot, they are comfortably cool and their bellies are full. Forget job and family problems, that's the breaks, as George W. says we are liberators.
Instead of making policemen of our military all over the world, George W. should bring the troops home to liberate Americans who no longer are safe in their own homes because of political perfidy and self interest.
