High Country News gets new chief

Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 | 9:21 a.m.

A contributor to "Writers on the Range," a syndicated column that appears occasionally in the Las Vegas Sun, has been promoted to executive director of High Country News.

It is the first time in 20 years that the nonprofit, independent newspaper has changed leaders.

Paul Larmer, 42, was promoted to fill the newspaper's top position because Ed Marston stepped down to become High Country News' senior journalist. Marston will be focused on writing for the paper for the first time since he and his wife, Betsy, joined the publication two decades ago.

Larmer joined High Country News in 1992 as an assistant editor.
