Developer has plans for 61 acres

Friday, Dec. 6, 2002 | 9:56 a.m.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman said he met with a "major developer" Thursday morning to discuss possible development on the 61 acres of land owned by the city along Grand Central parkway.

The developer, whom the mayor would not identify, has had an architect draw up plans for an academic medical center and a "mini-Central Park" on the former railroad yards.

"He's very serious," Goodman said, adding that the renderings probably cost the developer about $100,000.

Development of the vacant land downtown has become one of Goodman's primary goals. He has been in contact with several developers to try to bring a project to the property.

Goodman also said he spoke with an official from the Cleveland Clinic on Monday, and that the official told him the the Las Vegas property could be discussed during a Dec. 12 board meeting. The Cleveland Clinic operates multi-specialty academic medical centers in Cleveland and Florida.
