Air Guard honors top airmen

The Nevada Air National Guard has named three of its members Airman of the Year for 2002. The Guard annually honors an airman, a non-commissioned officer, a senior non-commissioned officer and a first sergeant with the title.

Staff Sgt. Kenny Dupree of the 152nd Intellegence Squadron received title in the airman category. Tech. Sgt. Jerry Miller of the 152nd Security Forces Squadron was given the non-commissioned officer title and senior non-commission honors went to Master Sgt. Rosie Marston of the 152nd Logistics Support Group. Master Sgt. Nick Carter of the 152nd Support Group was recognized in the first sergeant category.

Each individual was previously a quarterly award winner and then each was considered by a panel of three officers and 10 chief master sergeants for their leadership skills, job performance, self-improvement, and base and community involvement. The four will now advance to nationwide Air National Guard competition.

The winners are all members of the Nevada Air National Guard's 152nd Airlift Wing, which has a primary wartime mission of providing rapid airlift of cargo and troops. The wing also flies reconnaissance missions in support of military command and control operations, counter-drug operations, disaster-relief and photo mapping for federal and state agencies. The unit is tasked to deploy anywhere on the globe within its assigned response time for day and night missions.

Though now separate from the wing, the 152nd Intelligence Squadron is a link to the wing's past service as a tactical reconnaissance unit. The squadron is now an invaluable Air Guard asset that providing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to the Air Force's Air Combat Command.
