Letter: Republic Services does a fine job

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002 | 8:58 a.m.

On Nov. 27 I listened to David Letterman joking about New York City's garbage removal, which is sporadic, I guess. The day before Thanksgiving my son in San Diego took his weekly garbage to a dump, in the rain and mud, so that his Thanksgiving guests would not have to look at it in the street when they arrived.

We in Las Vegas have much to be thankful for, and one thing is our wonderful twice-a-week garbage pickup, rain or shine, holiday or not.

Give your garbage man a wave, a smile and, even better, a tip next time you see him in the street.

Another thought crossed my mind. If our government and government workers were so diligent with our money, wouldn't that be great? We pay them a lot in taxes, but they forget or misplace or lose documents or people without an excuse or an apology. I wish they were as accountable as our garbage company, don't you?

I am not related in any way to Republic Services, just grateful and want to pass it on.
