Camp a good outlet for foster kids
Friday, Aug. 30, 2002 | 2:51 a.m.
WEEKEND EDITION: August 31, 2002
Several children helped by the Sun Camp Fund are foster children who need a boost.
Two brothers, who had been in separate homes for many years, recently were placed together in the same home. The foster mother says camp would be a good opportunity and environment for them to spend time together.
A 10-year-old boy who has been in a foster home since 1994 also deserves to go to camp, his guardian says. He is well behaved and does well in school, she says. She receives no aid to care for the boy and needs help with such expenses as camp.
Some parents who see the value of a camping experience for their children also consider it a "reward" for good behavior and good grades. Unfortunately, they cannot afford the cost of camp.
The grandmother of an 11-year-old boy says he is a good young man, works hard in school, gets good grades and goes to church, where he participates in youth activities.
By joining contributors to the Las Vegas Sun Camp Fund you are making a difference in a child's life.
